Your past experiences are key to understanding who you are right now. Every moment in your life shapes you with or without knowing it. Most people follow their life trajectory and are not aware of what drives their decisions or maybe where they want to go. You may make decisions to keep others happy or keep the peace, you may make decisions to not stand out. Maybe you feel aggrieved towards your sibling and that breeds resentment and anger. You may struggle with healthy relationships or making deep meaningful connections. You may procrastinate or feel like an imposter…you may have all of the above and still not be aware of the impact they have on your day-to-day life…because it is familiar, it’s how it has always been.
When things are the same every day, you tend not to question them. However, at some point things become too frustrating, too tiring, the same thing happening again and again, lack of progress, not feeling happy, thinking there is more to life, you could have achieved more or you want to change your life to be doing something you love, instead of the job you currently have. You have dreams and desires of what life could be like if different decisions were made.
This is the beginning of the awareness. This is a great moment to lean in and dig deeper. Why do you not make progress? Why do things stay the same, even when you try your hardest to make changes? What drove all the key decisions in your life until now? What triggers you? The key is to dig deeper into your past as it’s the past that has shaped you into who you are today. There will have been moments in the past where a negative belief was formed about yourself that you still believe today. There will be moments when you were upset, scared, or traumatised, and that energy is stored in your body waiting to be released. There will be moments that made you shut down, and push all emotions and feelings down, and they are still there too.
Going back to find the root causes of all that doesn’t serve you and your highest good anymore, is important work and here I give a glimpse of how that can be changed so you can open up an amazing future full of opportunity and excitement as it feels aligned and within your power to achieve.
Re-wire The Brain
You are inundated with so much information through your senses every day that your brain has its own system to deal with it. It only notices and stores what it feels is important to you. The rest gets generalised, deleted, or distorted.
So if you keep wanting to take action and feel more confident but have thought you weren’t good enough for most of your life then the evidence of not being good enough is what your mind chooses to store, the amazing stuff where you were good enough gets generalised, deleted, or distorted. This leads to a lack of confidence, feeling like an imposter, not qualified enough, trying to please others, and procrastination, among other sabotaging behaviour.
Recognise the negative patterns, discover the past event that formed the belief, re-frame, re-wire, and create a new belief that serves you instead.
Break Down The Wall Around The Heart
The image of a wall around the heart is universal. Everyone can relate. Some people have protected their hearts so much they can’t feel anything. Past trauma, obvious or innocent, is stored here. Hurt by people you love. Anger at yourself. Any heartache at all creates a wall of protection. It blocks you from receiving not just love but also wealth, abundance, joy, etc. Break the walls around the heart and you open yourself up to more love, more opportunity, and more wonder.
The Body Stores It All
You shout at your children, you have road rage, you react quickly to things, the blood boils in you quickly and a knee-jerk reaction comes out. All these moments are your body being triggered back into the past to a time when you experienced some form of trauma. It relives the fear, the frustration, the hurt, the flight or fight, the shame, the helplessness, the rage, the guilt, and because the emotional energy of the past traumatic event has been pushed down so you can get on with life, it’s still there and flashes of it come out now and then.
Releasing this energy in a controlled gentle way from your nervous system allows the body to free itself of carrying the burden and you will feel lighter and liberated. This is also hugely beneficial for physical symptoms as our bodies start to break down, get sick, and form diseases when it has to carry the emotional energy for so long. Releasing it can heal the physical symptoms too.
The Soul Energy
The mind-body connection is truly amazing. If you think more positively, every single cell in your body gets that message and feels better. If you stand taller and prouder your mind receives that message and you think more positively. It’s a two-way connection. The gut is also considered a second brain and has a huge influence on moods and behaviours.
You are made up of an amazingly complex circuitry that up until now has been programmed by your past. Things your parents said and did. Things you saw and heard. Comments your teachers and colleagues said to you. Society and organisations systems and structure. We all live in a masculine energy world and there has been a misbalance for a long time. The feminine energy of calm, rest, and creativity has been pushed aside for too long for production, deadlines, and results. If your soul feels tired, you need to find the rebalance between masculine and feminine energy. Find harmony between doing and ‘being’. We are human ‘beings’ after all.
Conclusion
The best way to break the past to open up your future is to do the deep inner work. Face the uncomfortable moments, find the learnings and truth behind them, and become wise so that you can let it go, find acceptance or forgiveness, and choose who you are going to be going forward knowing you have had the unique past experiences that you have had. Healing is not about removing everything and starting with a clean slate. It’s about releasing the stuff that holds you back and stepping up to being the person you need to be to achieve what you want to achieve. Your past shouldn’t be eradicated, it’s what made you you. But you can release what is holding you back and take power from the experiences to propel you forward.
